The Challenges of the Drug Supply Chain Due to the Coronavirus and Some Good News
We’ve circulated regular newsletters to our customers since the start of the coronavirus crisis. These newsletters have been providing the reasons that customers may experience extended delivery times. A recent updated newsletter provides a detailed account of the situation and we urge you to read it if you have not already done so.
One of the reasons we’ve previously mentioned that is causing delivery delays is the difficulty in procuring pharmaceutical inventory due to the high demand for pharmaceuticals worldwide at this time. That’s why it struck a chord with us when CNBC reported that pharmacies in the United States appear to be dealing with the same challenges. In the CNBC article, “‘There’s a shortage of everything’: Pharmacies in New York City struggle to keep key medications stocked amid coronavirus outbreak”, both pharmacies and some of the largest wholesalers in the world describe the very same situation we have been advising our customers about for weeks. And that includes the rationing of supply by wholesalers in order to try to fairly allocate limited drug supplies.
But getting inventory is just one of the challenges in our filling orders during the coronavirus crisis. Securing air cargo transport of orders to your country is another when air transport capacity has been significantly curtailed worldwide. There are often long queues to onboard parcels to the limited available space on cargo planes. Once packages reach the destination country, customs officials are backlogged in clearing the incoming parcels and even after the packages are cleared by customs, the delivery carriers need to have adequate staff on the job and be able to deliver to the customers’ locations. This may not be immediately possible depending on how badly the area for delivery has been impacted by the coronavirus.
Yet, there is some good news. NorthWestPharmacy.com has been actively processing orders, getting them shipped and delivered throughout the coronavirus crisis and we continue to do so. In fact, we recently reported that we were able to ship 42% more orders last week than the week before as a result of our team’s around the clock efforts to obtain fresh inventory and additional air cargo bookings in order to supply our customers. Again, we urge you to read our latest detailed update on the situation if you have not ready done so.
We encourage customers to who may need medications in the coming months to place their orders now and those whose pending orders await shipping to keep their orders active and in the queue, which ensures they are locked in at the original price quoted at the time of placing the order. That’s beneficial to you because we’ve absorbed most of the coronavirus-related increases in product acquisition costs that we’ve faced to date but may be unable to do so for much longer. Also, the limited pharmaceutical supply, available cargo space for transport and customs clearances will all be allocated to customers on a first-come-first-served basis and it may be quite some time before worldwide drug supply and delivery systems return to normal. Until such time, orders are no longer being billed at the time they are placed. We will hold your billing information but you won’t be billed until your order is dispensed by our pharmacists and ready to be shipped. But, if for any reason you are unable to wait, you can cancel and you won’t be billed for any item that has not been shipped.
We sincerely appreciate your understanding and utmost patience regarding any delays you may have experienced or could experience in receiving your order. NorthWestPharmacy.com is one of the largest and most established online pharmacies providing lower cost medications from abroad to customers worldwide.
