Colorado’s Wholesale Drug Importation Plan “Misses the Mark” Says Non-Profit Advocacy Group
Drug shortages are everywhere! Here is what you can do.
Don’t miss our Dr. Connor’s bone-boosting foods and how to prevent and treat osteoporosis.
Last week, we reported that the Campaign for Personal Prescription Importation (CPPI), a national non-profit patient advocacy organization that fights for Americans’ access to the importation of safe and affordable prescription medication for personal use, states that recent Medicare price negotiations that purport to lower drug prices are “’too little, too late’”.
Now, the CPPI refreshes its concerns about state-level wholesale drug importation schemes as Colorado advances its plan to bulk import prescription drugs from Canada.
Colorado’s plan “could have the unintended consequence of cutting Americans off from the licensed pharmacies on which they depend …”
Past newsletters of ours provide additional details about how unworkable these wholesale drug import schemes are and the CPPI is now warning that Colorado’s plan “could have the unintended consequence of cutting Americans off from the licensed pharmacies on which they depend … [while] [s]tate wholesale importation plans add pricey middlemen that cut into patients’ proposed savings.”
As the CPPI puts it, “state wholesale importation plans are laden with extensive requirements that add layers of bureaucracy, which would take years to implement. Moreover, there is extensive opposition to State and tribal wholesale importation programs. Canadian regulatory restrictions, federal approval, and legal challenges remain obstacles for state wholesale importation programs to become operational.”
In contrast, the CPPI reports that Americans saved 73% more in 2021 than they did in 2020 by already directly and personally importing their medications from abroad for a whopping average annual savings of $3744 per person on their prescription drug bills last year.
That’s why CPPI Executive Director, Jack Pfeiffer says that, “‘Americans are in dire need of affordable access to critical medications that importation can offer, but wholesale state importation is not the solution, … [and] [o]nly personal importation, which avoids use of pricey middlemen and layers of bureaucracy, can deliver the savings that Americans need, particularly those on fixed incomes.’”
Yet, there is a bill now before the Senate called the DRUGS Act which is designed to prevent you from personally importing lower cost prescription drugs from legitimate online pharmacies, like NorthWestPharmacy.com. Please take 90 seconds of your time to help STOP the DRUGS Act here!
