The Good News and the Bad News About Shipping Rates That Will Affect You
The Bad News
We start with the bad news about shipping rates. We're incredibly disappointed that we are facing higher shipping rates - yet again - starting July 1, 2020. This is after international mail shipment costs had already surged to the highest levels we've ever seen due to Covid-19 surcharges being imposed by carriers and cargo companies.
"[T]he cancellation of more than 4.5 million passenger flights - the primary means of transporting post - has meant that capacity is scarce, costs more and takes longer", said a representative of the International Air Transport Association and the Universal Postal Union, as cited in a recent newsletter about delivery times that we published.
But a change coming July 1st, will raise shipping rates even further. The United States will increase what are called its "terminal dues" starting July 1st for postal shipments being delivered via USPS to consumers after entering the USA. Unfortunately, these are set to go up still again in January 2021. After paying Covid-19 surcharges for the past several months, it is frustrating and unfortunate that terminal dues are now skyrocketing the cost of delivery higher at a time when consumers can least afford it.
The Good News
Since March of this year, NorthWestPharmacy.com was forced to double its normal shipping fee to customers due to the whopping Covid-19 shipping surcharges that were foisted upon us.
We are aware what a burden this is on many of our customers during this difficult time. So, despite the skyrocketing shipping rates, we have reduced our shipping fee to our previous longstanding flat rate of $9.99 and there are thousands of items that are special free shipping at NorthWestPharmacy.com as well. We will do our best to maintain our longstanding normal shipping rate and free shipping specials as another way to help mitigate the impact of the coronavirus crisis on our customers but we do not know what further Covid-19 surcharges or other rate increases we will face in the coming months so we may only be able to maintain the lower shipping fee of today for a limited time.
In light of our reduced shipping fee and the escalating number of prescription drugs going out of stock worldwide due to the coronavirus crisis, we encourage customers who may need medications in the coming months to place their orders now and those whose pending orders await shipping to keep their orders active and in the queue, which ensures they are locked in at the original price quoted at the time of placing the order. That's beneficial to you because we've absorbed much of the coronavirus-related increases in product acquisition and shipping costs that we've faced to date but may be unable to do so for much longer. Also, the limited pharmaceutical supply, available cargo space for transport and customs clearances will all be allocated to customers on a first-come-first-served basis and we anticipate that it may be quite some time before worldwide drug supply and delivery systems return to normal.
