See our Dr. Brynna Connor on the negative mental health consequences of working from home and how you can make working from home health-enhancing.
As we have previously reported, the United States and much of the rest of the world is heavily reliant on Indian made finished dosages of prescription drugs and India is in turn heavily reliant on Chinese active pharmaceutical ingredients that are required to produce those finished dosages. That is why the following should be important to you.
The Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) fears 'cascading effects' of a suspension of cargo flights from China to India in the wake of the massive outbreak of Covid-19 now engulfing the Indian sub-continent. This was expressed in a recent letter from Pharmexcil to the Indian Ambassador to China, as reported by ThePrint media outlet.
… ‘the industry is fearing cascading effects on its entire supply chain, leading to shortage of essential medicines for the nation’s population, as well as severe impact on exports’.
ThePrint cites the letter in stating that, “[w]ith the suspension of cargo services, ‘the industry is fearing cascading effects on its entire supply chain, leading to shortage of essential medicines for the nation’s population, as well as severe impact on exports’”.
Those who regularly read our newsletter may recall that this is reminiscent of the international drug supply disruptions that occurred earlier in the pandemic when the transport of raw materials for the production of drugs was also impeded. At the time, we reported more out of stock items than ever in the history of our business.
Drug production, procurement and distribution is further complicated on the Indian sub-continent right now as a result of labour issues related to lockdowns and the sheer numbers of people infected with Covid-19 as the healthcare system verges on collapse. The toll on human beings there, including those who make and transport the pharmaceuticals we all take, is both staggering and heartbreaking. The risk of a forthcoming shortage of various drugs for export to international markets is significantly heightened as a result.
We encourage customers to understand the reasons why these notices from us are not marketing circulars but are in fact for the purpose of keeping you ahead of the real and present risk of drug shortages when we see they could be coming.
Please Stay Ahead of Any Possible Forthcoming Shortage of Drugs
