Drug Shortage Concerns Rise Again as Pandemic Spreads and Lockdowns Begin

In an Op-Ed article just published in Canada's Globe and Mail newspaper, "More drug shortages are inevitable unless we act now", a scientist and Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy with the University of Toronto, Mina Tadrous says:

A recent abstract of a journal article referenced in PharmTech.com says, "[a] rapid increase in the demand for [certain] drugs, coupled with production and supply interruptions related to the pandemic, and trade bans imposed by foreign manufactures were contributing factors to the shortages.

Other factors, such as quality-related production delays, lack of manufacturing capacity, raw materials shortages, or business decisions to stop making a drug are familiar causes for shortages."
