Should Doctors Have a Responsibility to Help Patients Source Cheaper Prescriptions Online?
Are high drug prices justified by Big Pharma’s R&D spending?
Check out our Dr. Connor on the signs, symptoms and treatments of premature menopause.
As inflationary and other factors increase prescription drug prices internationally, a recent news article in The Mirage caught our attention.
It discusses how the rising cost of medications means a significant number of patients are skipping doses altogether. This is something we have been aware of for many years. What caught our attention, however, is that the article is not about Americans. It is about Australians who are also feeling the sting of higher drug prices. The article quotes medical ethics researcher Dr. Narcyz Ghinea and cites his recently published paper in the prestigious medical journal, the BMJ. Dr. Ghinea argues that doctors should have a responsibility to help patients safely source cheaper medications online from abroad.
… doctors should have a responsibility to help patients safely source cheaper medications online from abroad.
While shrewdly warning that, “there are big incentives for unscrupulous operators willing to take advantage of people looking for cheaper medicines … [and the] biggest problem is that [their] drugs either don’t contain any of the active ingredient or at least not enough of it to be effective”, the article notes that many doctors are already helping their patients find safe and affordable sources of medications internationally. Dr. Ghinea acknowledges that “‘[o]f course, there are risks that need to be considered. But patients missing out on treatment they need because of cost is also risky.’”

Keep Your Access to Safe Medications from Canada and Abroad
The U.S. chain drugstore and Big Pharma industry have countless high-priced proxies lobbying Congress and Senate to shut down your lower cost drug importation from Canada and abroad. Many of our customers will remember how close they came to succeeding last year with the Senate’s proposed DRUGS Act, which was aimed at cutting off Americans’ access to international and Canadian online pharmacies that sell the same safe medications at a fraction of Big Pharma’s U.S. prices.
The grass roots message that you delivered to the halls of power was … instrumental in helping you to keep importing your medications from Canada …
Organized by the Campaign for Personal Prescription Importation (CPPI), over fifty thousand Americans, including thousands of NorthWestPharmacy.com customers, rose up in a letter-writing initiative to Senators opposing that terrible bill. The grass roots message that you delivered to the halls of power was a tremendous success and was instrumental in helping you to keep importing your medications from Canada and internationally.
The CPPI is a national non-profit patient advocacy organization that fights for Americans' access to safe and affordable personal prescription medications. The results of their annual survey on the experiences of Americans, just like you, who import their medications is crucial to educating and obtaining the support of politicians to push back against the relentless onslaught from Big Pharma to block your access to cheaper drugs, so please take just a couple of minutes to complete their annual survey under way here and help protect your ability to continue to import lower cost medications from companies like NorthWestPharmacy.com. Politicians are listening; please make sure they hear you through the CPPI survey.
